Sleep & Dream Flying at Brattleboro Music Center
Here’s an excerpt of this gorgeous piece that I commissioned by Akshaya Avril Tucker and premiered last Sunday at the Brattleboro Music Center - in my hometown! Akshaya crafted this piece with me in mind, using the open tuning I use for Indian music and leaving space for improvisation and ornamentation. While the piece makes use of the fluidity of Indian techniques, its subject is more personal. This is what Akshaya wrote about this music: Asleep, with waves of rest and rest

Sarafand at WQXR
Sarafand at WQXR
Cooking up something new in rehearsal for Layale Chaker & Sarafand’s at The Greene Space at WNYC/WQXR. This project is named ‘Radio Afloat’, the vision of a radio lost at sea. The new music Layale Chaker composed for this concert is a reflection on the intertwined destinies of people and the natural world, which manifest even louder in times of collective pain; a commentary on the ebb and flow of politics of power and conflict that further the vulnerability

Marlboro Slipstream at Soapbox Gallery
Marlboro Slipstream Group (Matan Rubinstein – piano/electronics, Andrew Greenwald – drums/percussion, Ned Rothenberg – winds and myself) was conceived as a musical meeting of four performers/composers/improvisers of wildly different musical backgrounds, to make music that is betwixt and between. An afternoon concert at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Park
I performed a solo show in the studio of the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Park, which consists of the land where the Cornish colony was, his sculpture gardens, manor, and studio. There is an excellent summer concert series there for which I was fortunate to perform. I played a program of Bach's 4th unaccompanied cello suite, Spiral by Robert Davidson for cello and digital delay (it's a big canon), a new work called Varsha by Reena Es

Sarafand Record Release
I'm so happy to announce the upcoming release of Inner Rhyme, the debut album of Sarafand, our band led by my extremely talented friend Layale Chaker on Jan. 22 at the Stone in New York. This album celebrates Arabic poetry, unveiling musical threads woven by the rhythmical cycles of the twelve classical Arabic poetic meters, the physical contour of verse, and the percussive potential of words. Layale’s composition process aims to capture the shape and essence of epic testimo

Solo Recital at Marlboro College
I presented a solo cello recital at Marlboro college featuring a new work by Matan Rubinstein, composer and professor of music at Marboro, with whom I play regularly in the Slipstream Ensemble. The piece consists of 5 inserts which are intended to be played in between the 6 movements of the 4th Suite for Unaccompanied cello by JS Bach. Matan described the piece as follows: "The best way to explain my thinking of Five Inserts involves architecture; I think of the piece, in a

Nakshatra @ Lyric Chamber Society
I was honored to perform with Nakshatra at the Lyric Chamber Society in New York. Led by violinists Trina Basu and Arun Ramamurthy, Nakshatra reimagines the potential of string Chamber Music for our global times. The group explores beauty found at the intersections of their musical paths, where original compositions weave together threads of South Indian classical, Western chamber music, jazz and creative improvisation. We were joined by Rich Stein on percussion for a divers
